Contemporary Printmaking & Paper Weavings

Hilary Lorenz is an extensively exhibited contemporary print media artist whose work spans printmaking, paper weaving, installation, and social practice. Known for immersive installations and intricate works constructed from hand-printed paper, she explores themes of endurance, adaptation, mortality, and the environment. Her internationally recognized Moth Migration Project is a collaborative installation of more than 20,000 hand-printed paper moths contributed by artists from 28 countries. The project has been exhibited widely and examines migration, pollination, and ecological interdependence. Drawing from an extensive archive of prints, Lorenz cuts, weaves, and reconfigures linocut, intaglio, silkscreen, cyanotype, and lithographic works into complex two- and three-dimensional forms. Influenced by long-distance running, travel, and environmental change, her work reflects resilience, transformation, and the relationship between people and place. Lorenz received her MFA from the University of Iowa and is a Fulbright Scholar to Taiwan and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow. She has exhibited at venues including the Denver Botanic Gardens, Bundaberg Regional Gallery (Australia), the South Australian Museum, and the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy. Her work is held in the collections of the Library of Congress, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, and the Bronx Museum of Art, and has been reviewed in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and Art in America. Her artwork is represented by Hecho Gallery, Santa Fe.
