I cannot remember the last time I finished a painting and was NOT surprised. All too often, feathered, furry and scaly friends invite me to take adventures not only with them, but also within. There I find interconnectedness with nature. My original intention was to paint in a non-objective style, something more sophisticated and abstract. The animals had other ideas. Early on, I would begin a painting and without fail, a beak, a tail or perhaps an eye would beg to make an appearance. Finally, I gave in to their appeals. Soon, the animals were creating themselves, first in my paintings, and later in repurposed pieces. I laughingly say that the longer I spend on a piece, the more that particular animal has to teach me. I spend a portion of each day reading what other people have to say about animals as archetypes and guides. In the end, however, each animal comes with a personal medicine for me. Likewise, I hope viewers will find their own personal connections to my work. Life has been Lisa’s greatest teacher. She says, “The more we are present to what is right in front of us, the more aware we become of ourselves, other people and the sacredness of everything. One day we awaken and understand how with each thought, word and action, we are co-creating tomorrow. That is a powerful realization.” Lisa graduated with a BFA degree from the University of Memphis. In 2013 she completed Spiritual Direction training, including archetypes.
